For Fiscal Year 2014-2015, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development provided a $35,000 grant to the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition. In 2012, Reform CCHD Now reported serious problems with NWBCCC. What’s particularly interesting about Reform CCHD Now’s report has to do with the response they received from Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, the executive director of Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of New York. In his response, Msgr. Sullivan said, “After the most recent review of their CCHD grant request, prior to your letter, the NWBCC was not recommended for funding, and will not be receiving money from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. ” Msgr. Sullivan did not elaborate on the reasons for denial of CCHD funding to NWBCCC.
Summary of problems
- Previous report indicated that NWBCCC runs a youth program called Sistas and Brothas United whose web presence shows support for homosexuality and Marxism.
- Recent investigations reveal that Sistas and Brothas United is still engaged in homosexuality activism
- Recent investigations show that Fernando Carlo, the current leader of Sistas and Brothas United is a participant in the communist-run Left Forum.
The previous report on NWBCCC gives screen captures of from various Google-group conversations showing that the previous head of NWBCCC’s project Sistas and Brothas United, Shaun Lin, was actively promoting homosexual activism and communism. One message even indicated that Lin (acting as head of Sistas and Brothas United) was proposing a violent revolution in New York.
Page 8 of the CCHD grants list for 2014-2015 shows that NWBCCC received a $35,000 grant. A March 2014 article by the Cardinal Newman Society titled, “Fordham Univ. to Host ‘IgnatianQ: Finding God in the LGBTQ & Ally Jesuit Student Community’” says, “A seminar titled LGBTQ Activism 101 will be led by the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition. The website of the NBCCC links to an LGBT advocacy organization called FIERCE.”
A quick examination of NWBCCC’s project Sistas and Brothas United’s facebook page shows that on August 14, Sistas and Brothas United launched a Gay Straight Alliance.
Beneath this facebook post, it’s clear that this launch was “liked” by NWBCCC” and NWBCCC’s president, Sandra Lobo-Jost, said “Love it!”
In January of 2013, Sistas and Brothas United participated in the “New York City Consortium GSA Network.” According to the article, posted on www.gsanetwork.org, the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Network “gathered with the hopes of coming up with ways to support existing organizing efforts as well as a more coordinated approach to GSA organizing in New York City’s high schools.” In other words, the purpose of the meeting was specifically to coordinate homosexuality activism.
In addition to its homosexuality activist work, NWBCCC “likes” a homosexuality activist organization on its Facebook page called FIERCE.
One member of NWBCCC’s executive staff is Orlando Torres, the Director of Operations.
Torres is a member of the Fordham Lutheran Evangelical Church, which is important to establish because the same Torres is also a signatory on a New York Bill pushing for the passage of same-sex “marriage” in the state of New York.
The other member of the executive staff is Fernando Carlo. Like his predecessor, Shaun Lin, Carlo was an active participant in the 2013 meeting of communists known as The Left Forum.
Conclusion
It’s rather perplexing that NWBCCC would even be considered for a CCHD grant. Given the past report on NWBCCC, which indicates serious problems with the organization, and considering that the Archdiocese of New York had rejected the organization’s grant application in 2012, it’s clear that NWBCCC is unfit for Catholic money. Add to this the recent information proving an ongoing commitment to homosexuality activism and participation in communist activities, and the case is even more obvious.
