On June 4, 1986, Archbishop Peter Gerety formally stepped down as the head of the Archdiocese of Newark, paving the way for his young successor, Theodore McCarrick. Speaking of the then 56-year-old McCarrick, Abp. Gerety said, “I believe it is time for a younger man to take over the reigns of office here in Newark.” He also said that McCarrick’s ”outstanding success” in the Diocese of Metuchen ”augurs well for the future of this archdiocese.”
As recent history well notes, McCarrick’s move to the Archdiocese of Newark would spell disaster for souls, marking the beginning of a long trail of scandals and ruined vocations. Amid the sexual advances made toward seminarians, the notorious beach house bed-parties, and general rise in financial and personal prominence, McCarrick’s legacy of notoriety can now include the spread of openly satanic music.
Founded in 1948, WSOU 89.5 FM is a student-run radio station owned and operated by the Catholic University of New Jersey, Seton Hall. Seton Hall, in turn, is a Diocesan university, belonging to the Archdiocese of Newark. Mere months after McCarrick assumed the office of Newark’s new archbishop, WSOU changed its broadcasting format to hard rock and heavy metal.
On WSOU’s “about us” page, the station boasts that its signal “reaches all five boroughs of New York City and much of northern and central of New Jersey” to a market of about 120,000 listeners through the airwaves, and thousands more through online streaming, every week. Claiming that its core demographic includes boys as young as 12 years, WSOU says, “Since 1986, WSOU has programmed a hard rock format and the station has developed a national reputation as an industry leader in breaking new bands.”
But the description of “hard rock” hardly illustrates the depths of depravity to which this station has fallen. WSOU claims to be committed to “strengthening Seton Hall’s Catholic and academic identity” and encouraging “students and listeners to pursue a quest for lifelong learning sustained by Catholic values.” But the reality is that WSOU is broadcasting bands and songs that are blasphemous, openly satanic, promote sacrilege, promote the murder and mutilation of women and children and the slaughter of Christians.
What we are about to show you is extremely disturbing and upsetting, so if you don’t feel the need to see the evidence of the charges we just leveled against WSOU, please stop here and jump to the bottom of the article to contact the various dioceses of New Jersey, Seton Hall, and the regents and trustees of Seton Hall and DEMAND that WSOU be immediately pulled from the airwaves and the radio station shut down, completely.
WSOU’s playlists are uploaded to a website called spinitron.com/WSOU. Analyzing the playlist and reviewing the bands and songs listed reveals that WSOU’s regular broadcast is completely filled with songs that advocate an Odinist slaughter of Christians, the graphic and gratuitous murder and mutilation of women and children, and bands whose album covers are covered with satanic, sacrilegious, and disturbing imagery.
For instance, on September 15, 2019 at 1:38AM, WSOU played a song titled “Blood Eagle” by a band called Periphery.
The song is about an ancient Nordic torture method so horrific, many historians don’t believe it was ever actually practiced. The Blood Eagle form of execution involved slicing open the back of the victim, separating the rib cage from the spinal column, and pulling the lungs out through the back in such a way as to look like “wings.” According to Periphery’s lyrics, the song is from the first person (we), as Norsemen who will descend upon Christians to kill them by making the Blood Eagle for the glory of the pagan gods Odin and Thor. Here is a sample:
We come for war
King of the north and norse
With drums beating, screams repeating and the hammer force of Thor
Surrender not enough
The Christian seed will sing amongst the soil of trees
From the sea is the destroyer
From the sea is an eagle drenched in blood
Blood eagle
Blood eagle is the destroyer
Blood eagle will set the wicked free
Rip the body from the bone now
Spread the heavens wings
Show Valhalla glory and memory
Let ’em
Let ’em
Let the Christians sing
On August 16, 2019, WSOU aired the song “Hammer Smashed Face” by the band Cannibal Corpse. It was also broadcast on October 19, 2019, December 3, 2019 and most recently, August 10, 2020.
The album cover, visible as a thumbnail on the Spintron listing and posted on full display on iHeartRadio’s live feed of WSOU’s broadcast, features two mutilated and desiccated corpses arranged in an erotic position. The image is too foul to post – even as a censored image – here on this website. The lyrics for “Hammer Smashed Face” are extremely violent and grotesque, and most disturbingly, are also written from the first person. Here is a slightly edited portion of the lyrics:
Brutality now becomes my appetite
Violence is now a way of life
The sledge my tool to torture
As it pounds down on your forehead
Eyes bulging from their sockets
With every swing of my mallet
I smash your f*****g head in, until brains seep in
through the cracks, blood does leak
distorted beauty, catastrophe
Steaming slop, splattered all over me
September 23 of 2019 is the last date on which WSOU’s playlist was uploaded to spinitron, but on WSOU’s iHeartRadio livestream broadcast is a display of recently played and currently playing songs. One band which features prominently at WSOU is called Electric Wizard. On October 4, 2019, WSOU played their song titled “Venus in Furs,” which came from their album called “Black Masses.” A black Mass, of course, is the satanic inverse of a Catholic Mass.
When a listener clicks through on any “recently played” song on the list, they can view the album cover. Here is a clearer image of the “Black Mass” album cover.
On February 22, 2019, WSOU aired Electric Wizard’s song, “Doom Mantia,” whose lyrics very clearly describe a dark ritual involving demon worship.
Thirteen gather on a moonless night
The morning star is burning bright
Doom-mantia
Followers, they sing and dance
The pipes of Pan have weaved a trance
Dressed in black
No turning back
Doom-mantia
On December 1, 2017, WSOU played Electric Wizard’s song “Necromania.”
The lyrics for “Necromania” describes the ritual murder of a virgin for a satanic ceremony.
We love your virgin blood
Death is our drug
Shadows, we hunt the streets
High on your screams
[chorus]
‘Cause she loves necromania
Death her pleasure
‘Cause she loves necromania
Black whips of leather
Funeral shadows, black hooded figures
Death her pleasure
Necromania
We rise from the tomb
Your flesh is our doom
Screaming, chained in our crypt
Too late, you can’t resist
[chorus]
At last, so sweet, so dead
We drink your final breath
Torture, bloodlust, and pain
We…
On November 5, 2016, WSOU broadcast the blasphemous song “Blacken the Cursed Sun” by the band blasphemously named Lamb of God.
The album cover displays a sacrilegious depiction of the Most Blessed Sacrament where the chalice is made of human bones, a fractured host is discarded, and an inverted cross is found in the letter “d” in the word “god.” The lyrics for “Blacken the Cursed Sun” definitively denies and rejects God’s promise of salvation and the forgiveness of sins for those who repent and eternal damnation for those who refuse. Here is a sample of the lyrics:
Better to die quick fighting on your feet
Then to live forever begging on your knees
No.
Can we still be saved?
Hell no!
Does your God hold a place for us?
Hell no!
Is there time to repent?
Hell no!
Will we rise from the dead?
Hell no!
Can these sins even be forgiven?
Hell no!
Is there still hope for us?
Hell no!
Most recently, on August 12, WSOU broadcast the song “Rain” by the band Trivium.
The lyrics for “Rain,” speaking in the first person, depicts a murder-suicide where the singer finds “absolution” in someone’s death and a need to “swallow every blasphemy” before hanging himself.
Absolution at the sight of your demise
I know what I must do
Swallow every blasphemy
Eat out your heart and make it bleed
Tie the noose around my neck
Make this life end
On October 6, 2017, WSOU posted on facebook that the previous night it broadcast “The Serpentine Offering” by Dimmu Borgir. This song was also played on October 5, 2019.
The album cover literally shows the satanic Baphomet (now commonly depicted in a bronze statue and erected in various cities around the US by the Church of Satan) while the lyrics for the song provide a ritual for giving one’s self over to total possession by the devil.
Here is a portion of the lyrics:
A veil of ignorance is in motion
Continuing throughout multiple generations
Let me be the one that deliver you from the deceit
And back into perfect accordance with the laws of nature
The snake is notoriously tempting
But the snake is fair
What is worse than not knowing?
To live or disappear?
The ferocity pervades everywhere
Waiting to be released at last
Hear my offering
Ye bastard sons and daughters
Share my sacrifice
Share my sacrifice
This extremely small sampling of WSOU’s broadcasting playlist is representative of the vast majority of the station’s programming. Given the distinctly satanic, violent, and necrophilic nature of WSOU’s broadcast schedule, there is no way it can possibly be reconciled with its claim of commitment to “strengthening Seton Hall’s Catholic and academic identity.” Furthermore, the radio station and its FCC license is owned by Seton Hall, and Seton Hall falls under the supreme authority of Cardinal Tobin of the Archdiocese of Newark, which means that the Archdiocese of Newark and Cardinal Tobin are directly responsible for the spread of satanism, violence, and necrophilia.
On WSOU’s “about us” page, it clearly states that it is the radio station of Seton Hall University.
According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), WSOU’s operating license is owned by Seton Hall University.
Given that Seton Hall University owns the radio station and WSOU’s FCC license, it’s clear that this allegedly “Catholic” institution could and should shut down WSOU’s anti-Catholic operations immediately. But the depth of corruption doesn’t stop with Seton Hall.
Seton Hall University is a “Diocesan University,” which means that it operates under the authority of the Archbishop of Newark. On a page regarding its Catholic Mission, Seton Hall says:
“As Catholic, Seton Hall is an institutional commitment of the Archdiocese of Newark, and as such it is committed to promoting Catholic ideals, principles, and values in all its activities.”
On another page, Seton Hall indicates that it is a Diocesan University:
“Seton Hall is a Catholic, diocesan university, serving a predominantly Catholic student body but open to people of all faiths. We are Catholic in many ways: by the instruction we offer in our classrooms, by the creative faith and love of our members, by the public proclamation of our beliefs, and by our grace-filled search for the truth. We include in our priorities a mission of service to the Catholic Church of Newark and our neighboring dioceses, working in a frank and confident collaboration with fellow Christians and others to promote the spiritual, human, and social development of all people.”
And on yet another page, Seton Hall indicates that it is the oldest diocesan university in the United States:
Seton Hall, holding title as the oldest Catholic diocesan institution of higher education in the United States, was confronted with these reforms as well. In the midst of a changing and sometimes turbulent world of the 1960’s, the presidency and person of Bishop John J. Dougherty, 1959-1969, initially embarked on the pathways of institutional self-exploration. First, as a diocesan university, Seton Hall historically enjoyed a close fraternal relationship with the local churches of Newark and neighboring dioceses in New Jersey, its bishops, priests, religious and Catholic faithful. In essence, these ecclesial relationships defined the identity and character of Seton Hall and its diocesan character from its beginnings.
…
The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) (2006), an organization dedicated to the preservation of Catholic higher education in American society and to foster collaboration among member institutions, identifies Seton Hall University as one of two hundred twenty-one (221) Catholic colleges and universities in America. ACCU also identifies Seton Hall University as one of eleven (11) higher educational institutions with a diocesan affiliation.
According to a 2016 paper by Boston College on Catholic Universities, diocesan universities are owned and sponsored by the diocese and controlled by the bishop. The paper distinguishes the difference between a pontifical university and a diocesan university in a footnote found on page 23, saying:
“a pontifical university has its ultimate sponsorship and control in the Holy See in Rome. In a diocesan university, sponsorship and control belong to the bishop of the respective diocese.”
On page 46, under the appendix to which the footnote referred is the following chart, illustrating the controlling interests of various types of Catholic universities.
And just to solidify the point, Seton Hall’s most recent tax form 990 lists all the bishops of New Jersey as “regents” of the University.
In fact, Cdl. Joseph Tobin (Archbishop of Newark) serves as both Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of the Board of Regents.
What all of this proves is that beyond any shadow of any doubt, both Seton Hall and the Archdiocese of Newark have the authority and the ability to shut WSOU down without any hesitation. That this station has been allowed to broadcast this filth for as long as it has is a scandal of epic proportions.
It is the absolute duty of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Regents, and ultimately the Archbishop of Newark to immediately and irrevocably shut down Seton Hall’s radio station. Reform, at this point, is not only not enough as history has shown that it won’t work. Since 1988, there have been several attempts to stop WSOU from broadcasting satanic music. After each attempt, while some satanic bands and songs were temporarily banned, the station continued to spiral into darker and darker programming.
In 1988, Seton Hall banned around 300 albums after a teenager who was a regular listener to WSOU committed suicide with tape recording of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Suicide Solution” in his pocket.
In 2001, Seton Hall ordered the station to abandon its format of heavy metal and hard rock for one which better reflects the “values of the university.” It’s hard to say how short-lived this order was, but given its current format, it is clear that the two attempts to revise the format of the station and ban such music have completely failed. There is no conceivable excuse that can justify the broadcasting of these and other songs that are so clearly antithetical to the Catholic faith, and the only course of action left is for the station to be closed down completely, ensuring a total end to this satanic programming.
Please copy and paste the list of email addresses and send the following note to Cardinal Tobin and members of the Board of Regents and the Board of Trustees, demanding that WSOU be closed down, permanently. NOTE: This is not a complete list of the members of those boards, but it is sufficient for addressing the problem.

Dear Cardinal Tobin and Regents and Trustees of Seton Hall,
As a faithful Catholic, I am appalled to learn that a radio station belonging to a Catholic university under the authority of the Archdiocese and Cardinal Archbishop of Newark, NJ is broadcasting violent, satanic music in direct opposition to the Catholic faith. For the salvation of souls, both yours and those listening to this filth, I demand that WSOU be forced to close down immediately.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Aileen Stahl says
This radio station needs to be banned. We (husband, daughters, son-in-law all graduates of Seton Hall
Peter says
Agreed. Driving through the region, I was briefly thrilled to scan a Catholic radio station with my family of five until I was shocked at their lousy evil content too. Over a year ago I forgot to write in complaint.
Barbara says
This makes my stomach sick….it also breaks my heart finding more and more of God’s chosen men are leading their sheep astray.
Rosemarie Marra says
This is unbelievable!!! Please ban this music ASAP from Seton Hall.
Kevin Rilot says
Some things never change……………..the professional and excellent reporting of Lepanto and that when sodomy is accepted all roads lead to hell.
Margaret Mary Neary says
I have been increasingly upset with the lack of Catholic teaching in schools claiming to be Catholic. I think Catholic parents who send their children to Catholic schools expect that their children are being taught Catholic principals. When they find out this is not happening their takes the children out. Why pay for what you can get free in public schools?
This radio station and all those in charge of allowing it must be dismissed. If it can be brought back with Catholic values then restart it with strict over seeing
Turbo Catholico says
They’ve banned it twice and the problem returned. The anti-Christian culture at Seton Hall wants this evil to continue. Oversight can’t fix that.
There’s also money involved.
The man previously responsible for oversight was arrested in 2006 for embezzling over a half million dollars from the station and was convicted.
This has been going on for 33 years. WSOU must be shut down. Please email the trustees and regents at the email addresses provided above and ask them to end this abomination now.
Dolly Faust says
Thank you for this diligent (and probably dangerous) research. Most people do not realize the terrible consequences of regularly listening to such abominable lyrics. When one of my children was in her late teens, she was listening to a notoriously-satanic music group repeatedly. Since our bedroom was on the first floor, and hers on the second, I never heard this horror. Fortunately, our younger child who had just received the Sacrament of Confirmation came to me complaining about this situation. He asked me to listen to the lyrics, which I did but could not understand them (?); so, he brought me a copy of the lyrics. Every perversion, even those unimaginable were presented in that music. We confronted her and required her to burn the tape with us in attendance. The burning elicited blood-curdling demonic screams until the fire fully consumed the tape, proving the demonic presence. Truthfully, this was the beginning of her descent. She is now a good person, but very far from God. Any child that could be spared of this grave situation deserves to be protected from such horror. Thank you and may Our Lady hold you close to her Immaculate Heart. ????

Please Do not allow satanic influence to take root inside a catholic university with it having the potential to sway many young people away from God. Please ban the satanic radio from ever operating on catholic ground.
Patrice says
This is just horrific and must stop! Please remove this radio station from this catholic university!!
Fr. Tom Flowers says
The most frightening and depressing thing about all this is what it reveals about the “shepherds” who, out of ignorance, cowardice, or evil have abandoned the flock and betrayed the Gospel.
Holly J Harrington says
Hich just so you know I copy and pasted those addresses and it wouldn’t go through.
Holly J Harrington says
Post Script.
I copied the letter and your article and sent to Archbishop Christophe Pierre.
Georgina Holderness says
Please change the format of this radio station or shut it down.
Music should be uplifting and give glory to God!
There is so much good music that praises our God.
I hope you will make positive changes to encourage all people who hear music for the glory of God.
Viva Christo Rey!
Ron Gaudio says
Make the donors aware of this. When they pull their funds, the station will be shut down. The only thing that they understand is money. That is their god. Take it away and they will comply.
Elizabeth says

This is betrayal of the Christ!
Your Eminence Tobit – if you are shepherd you WILL close this faster than you can say Amen!

I remember Tobin when he was in Indianapolis. Don’t hold your breath.
C Marek says
Thanks again for the in depth research.
Hope many people will join in writing letters to cause this to be shutdown. May our Lady help clean the church and may she secure for you abundant blessings.
Jeanne Taylor says
How revoltingly evil. May St. Michael the Archangel protect all our young, and not so young people!
Eminence Tobin stop this openly evil now! For the sake of souls and your own!
Joe S says
Back in the 80’s, I listened to WSOU. . . . yeah, it was “heavy metal”, but it was more “pop” metal than anything. While not wholesome, it was nowhere as demonic as this music sounds – heck, when I tried to listen to the station while passing through NJ, it was totally unintelligible – wow how things have changed.
Donald Link says
For those with a clinical interest, especially academics whose speciality is abnormal psychology, there are a number of classical and current studies that explain the basis for the interest by some in these perversions. Suffice to say, that today’s moral climate does not exactly assist in treating persons with these afflictions but there are still reputable clinicians who can help those genuinely seeking assistance.
J.Thomas Phillips says
Donald, Thanks for your post on this evil/satanic broadcasting station and other related evils. But would you be so kind as to provide a list of some of these reputable clinicians? This would be most helpful particularly in the current social & seemingly lack of moral/spiritual climate. Many thanks.

Footnote to my previous post, Everyone here is totally impressed with the LaPonto Investigative reporting on this most horrific evil station at Seton Hall and the lack of Catholic
Support from Cardinal Tobin. Which is obviously outrageous, but given his reputation what else can you expect? Another poster wisely suggested to hit the Trustees in their Pocket Books Financially cutting off their funding. They will hear that loud and clear since it is money that is their god! Another method that may be utilized and one that is not very popular or recognized here in West, It is simply to Shut Down the Bishop/ Cardinal at Mass and forcefully and effectively tell him to resign as well as stop giving cash in the collection basket. In these times its worth a shot. What have you got to loose? Perhaps the souls of your children? possibly even ourselves for not Confessing Christ before Men?!
Gerard Briggs says
Forget the radio station. They should shut Seton Hall down. Swap the “e” for an “a” and you get Saton Hall. Very clever to put the “o” in but it sounds like Saton Hall. Don’t think this is a coincidence. An investigation should be done into who actually built this University. Was it the Mason’s? Really how Catholic is this University?
Mike says
As usual, many of these lyrics are taken out of context. The Lamb of God song is actually about society losing its grip on morality and human decency. The band began with some christian undertones. The vocalist (whose style admittedly takes some getting used to) is actually quite outspoken on national issues and would more than likely provide very sound responses for what you seem to be misinterpreting.
Michael Hichborn says
There’s no context to be given for the performance of blasphemy or sacrilege that can possibly justify it. You can’t perform something that’s blasphemous or sacrilegious, call it satire or editorial commentary, and have it therefore not be blasphemous or sacrilegious.
Mike says
To the point, the stations programming hasnt changed in 30 years, and during that time has produced thousands of students who uphold the values of servant leadership. The niche genre of the programming increases visibility for the school and allows students access to skill development opportunities you would not normally get at a college station. Theyre top ten ranked in the country on the college level and have won marconi awards for successive years. Substantial numbers of students move on to careers after leaving there.
josef says
Nordic losers….the cowards are too afraid to deal with the infidels in their own countries but promote death against Christians. How tough they are, being told what to do by feminists…
Seton Hall alum says
I come from a family of Seton Hall alumni and am SO GRATEFUL that you have brought these abominations to light.
While the problem is an old one, there is a new president at Seton Hall who publicly projects an active Catholic faith. I hope that he will be motivated to eradicate this terrible evil now that the university is under his stewardship.
Brian Kelly says
get this info to new president. my two brothers went to Seton Hall in early 70s.
Richard Smaglick says
The band known as Lamb of God was formerly known as Burn the Priest. They have recently reestablished that identity. WSOU plays Burn the Priest.
Jay says
This music is totally inappropriate to be broadcast publicly much less from a Catholic University. Take control or shut it down.
Joe G. G. says
It’s scandalous, blasphemous, incredible! They will promote the agreement of Catholicism with satanism??! Or they think harmless the satanic music? It’s totally crazy! Sancta Virgo Maria, ora pro nobis!
Juan Martín says
This is horrific. Nothing can justify this.
The Holy Mother Church is being run by traitors.
Joseph K McLaughlin says
The problem is so much more widespread than one Catholic school radio station.
Many of today’s parents obviously see no harm in this or are terrified to just say NO to the little dears and as a result the godless thrive in the fertile waters of academia. The net result is manifest by a large and growing number of youth with results that can be seen any night on network news. We’ve lost them and the battle however the good news is that those faithful to God have read the book and know how it all ends. The ones lost will weigh heavily on those who were commissioned to teach and protect them but, in order to insure their own peace have resisted saying NO.
It’s not to late.

Someone just sent me this article and I feel very uneasy and slightly sick. I used to listen to all this music, and much worse. I owned many of these albums including what those they show the ‘cover art’ for. This stuff is dark and wicked in the worst degree. Trust me, you don’t want to have to chain a rosary around your hand (not clutch it, but wrap it around so it doesn’t fall out), and teach yourself the Hail Mary and Jesus prayer (“Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me a sinner”.) in your sleep because you have extremely vivid nightmares . Thanks be to God (and thanks especially to our Blessed Mother Mary through the Rosary) that I gave all this music up years ago and gave my life to Christ. I got into this music when I was 15/16 and I’m now 32 (though I gave this music up years ago), but even to this day, there is a part of me that “likes” to listen to the music (stylistically – loud, aggressive, incessant etc.). Literally, the last place one should find this music is a CATHOLIC radio station. May God have mercy on me for all my wasted years and the blasphemes I constantly allowed to be repeated in my headphones / speakers, for the money I wasted on this “entertainment” which could have been used for something to help others with instead. May God have mercy on this “Catholic” radio station, and turn back to something Godly. Parents, if you have teens going down this avenue, I’m praying for you.
