Churches United For Fair Housing
In 2021, Churches United for Fair Housing (CUFFH) received a $65,000 grant from the CCHD (Catholic Campaign for Human Development). This is their 4th grant since 2017, totaling $260,000.
While the CCHD grant area specifies that its grant to CUFFH was for its work in “housing, the fact of the matter is that CUFFH is actively promoting abortion, contraception, and LGBTQ ideologies. Furthermore, in violation of the CCHD’s grant requirement that grantees not be members of coalitions that act against Church teaching, CUFFH is a member of the Center for Popular Democracy, which is pro-abortion.
CUFFH’s promotion of contraception and abortion
On the very front page of CUFFH’s website is a link to a Community Health Resource Guide that it produced.
Bearing CUFFH’s logo on the front cover, proving that CUFFH wrote and produced the the document, page 7 of the Community Health Resource Guide says, “Use condoms as often as possible.”
Given this context, it’s not hard to conclude that this March 2020 webinar on “womxn reproductive health” would have included information on contraception and abortion. While there is no explicit mention of abortion or contraception on the poster, their use of the term “reproductive health” and the information to be discussed as “revolutionary” is telling.
On September 27, 2021, CUFFH published its Fall Programming Schedule, showing that in October it would be hosting a showing of the pro-abortion propaganda movie, “Reversing Roe.”
On October 12, CUFFH reminded its followers that the next night (the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima), CUFFH would be holding a “Revolutionary Cinema” movie night, showing the movie “Reversing Roe.”
Despite being billed as a “fair and balanced” look at abortion and the politics of the United States regarding the disastrous Roe v. Wade decision, the movie was a plain and clear piece of pro-abortion propaganda. An article by Catholic News Agency titled, “Pro-Life Women Say They Were Overlooked by Netflix Documentary ‘Reversing Roe’” notes:
“Critics of the film note that appearances by abortion advocates far outnumber appearances by pro-life advocates, and three of the four pro-life individuals featured in the documentary are white males.
Several prominent women in the pro-life movement say they were contacted by the filmmakers, and in some cases spent multiple hours or days talking to the camera crew, but were not included at all in the final documentary. In addition to Mancini, these women include Destiny Herndon-De La Rosa, founder of New Wave Feminists; Catherine Foster, president of Americans United for Life; and Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood employee who runs And Then There Were None.”
CUFFH promoting homosexual and transgender ideologies
On July 29, 2020 CUFFH posted an article on Medium titled, “Why Are Pronouns Important? CUFFH’s Statement on Pronouns.” In the opening paragraph, CUFFH openly professes its work for transgender ideologies:
“At CUFFH it is important for us to ally with the transgender and gender non-conforming community. How we address each other, our communities, and our allies is integral to our daily interactions and mission. We commit to including our pronouns in email, business cards, meetings, on our website, and other spaces to hold ourselves accountable in the fight for gender justice and equity.” (emphasis added)
After exploring some rather bizarre concepts regarding the use of pronounce, CUFFH closes the article by saying:
“We cannot assume people’s gender by their name, clothes, how they speak or how they express themselves.
How Do You Ask Someone About Their Pronouns? Try asking: “What are your gender pronouns?” or “Which pronouns do you use?” or “Can you remind me which pronouns you use for yourself?” It can feel awkward at first, but it is not half as awkward as getting it wrong or making a hurtful assumption.
If you’d like to have more of a conversation about why this is important, please reach out to CUFFH at 718–360–2906 or through our website at cuffh.org/contact. We’d love to talk.” (emphasis original)
Given this background, clearly indicating that CUFFH is completely committed to promoting transgender ideologies, some of its other activities reinforce this commitment.
On CUFFH’s web page for Youth Organizing, CUFFH indicates that the curriculum it uses for GROW Bushwick includes the promotion of “LGBTQ rights.”
On November 8, 2021, CUFFH posted this pro-transgender image on facebook:
Member of Pro-Abortion Coalition
The CCHD absolutely forbids organizations from membership in organizations acting against Catholic teaching. In an FAQ on the USCCB website, the CCHD directly answers the question about whether grantees may be members of coalitions that oppose Catholic teachings. In answer, the CCHD firmly stated, “CCHD will not fund groups that are knowingly members of coalitions that have as part of their organizational purpose or coalition agenda, positions or actions that contradict fundamental Catholic moral and social teaching.”
Despite this, CUFFH is a member of the pro-abortion Center for Popular Democracy. CUFFH is identified as an affiliate member on the Center for Popular Democracy’s Affiliates Page.
And the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) is completely in the tank for abortion.
In February of 2019, CPD decried pro-life efforts to criminalize abortion declaring, “We are a #ProchoiceNation and we will NEVER go back.”
In May 2019, CPD insinuated in a tweet that pro-life legislation was somehow racist.
On January 20, 2022 (2 days from the anniversary of Roe v. Wade), CPD tweeted “Abortion bans will not prevent abortions. Abortions bans will put the lives of millions—and their families—in danger.”
On January 22, 2022, CPD tweeted, “Today is a good day to celebrate abortion.”
On June 24, 2022, the day the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the Center for Popular Democracy issued a public statement slamming the decision calling it “an attack on our democracy.”
Conclusion
Churches United for Fair Housing actively supports actively promotes transgender ideologies, contraception, and abortion. Additionally, it is an affiliate of a radical pro-abortion organization called the Center for Popular Democracy, in direct violation of CCHD grant guidelines on coalitions.
