PUSH Buffalo
PUSH Buffalo (People United for Sustainable Housing) is a nonprofit whose stated mission is “to mobilize residents to create strong neighborhoods with quality, affordable housing; to expand local hiring opportunities; and to advance racial, economic, and environmental justice in Buffalo.” It was founded in 2005 as an initiative to help ordinary residents take part in making decisions involving housing and employment in the city of Buffalo. However, this organization promotes LGBTQ+ activism and so-called “reproductive justice”, and has partnered with other organizations acting in opposition to Catholic moral and social teaching.
Since 2006, PUSH Buffalo has received a total of $530,000 from the CCHD, including its most recent grant of $60,000 in 2020.
PUSH Buffalo Supports LGBTQ+ communities and activism
In 2021, one of PUSH Buffalo’s projects, the Grant Street Neighborhood Center ran what can only be called a grooming session for youth ages 14-20 called “Love on the Spectrum.” PUSH Buffalo described the program as “a safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth to dialogue about their experiences, identity and learn about topics such as gender justice and sexuality.”
On January 22 and May 7 of 2021, PUSH Buffalo advertised the program on facebook, making it clear that this was all about pushing homosexual and transgender ideologies.
The year before, in October 2020, PUSH Buffalo hosted another creepy youth grooming program about LGBTQ+ issues called ABC Talk. With a similar mission of providing a “safe space” for youth to “dialogue” about their “experiences, identity and learn about topics such as gender justice and sexuality.”
On June 30, 2021, PUSH Buffalo commemorated Pride Month with a post which was openly supportive of LGBTQ+ activists.
On March 8, 2021, PUSH Buffalo also released a post for International Women’s Day which celebrated transgender women.
Besides running youth programs and making social media posts which advance an LGBTQ+ agenda, PUSH Buffalo has partnered with numerous other organizations with similar problematic agendas.
On May 9, 2015, PUSH Buffalo partnered with the Buffalo Dyke March, a lesbian activist event, co-hosting a “community forum” about the March. They advertised the meeting on Facebook as “mixing activism with a good time.”
PUSH Buffalo’s Pro-Abortion Activities
On February 3, 2021, PUSH Buffalo’s Grant Street Neighborhood Center advertised the Teen Reality Theater, a program run by Planned Parenthood. The post advertised for “local highschoolers with a passion for the arts and reproductive justice” and promoted learning about “sexual health and reproductive justice”.
On the facebook page it linked to, Teen Reality Theatre made it very clear that it is a project of Planned Parenthood.
In 2019, PUSH Buffalo co-sponsored the Women’s March Buffalo/WNY, an event which promoted both LGBTQ+ and abortion ideologies. The march’s statement clearly outlines as one of the march’s goals: “destigmatize and improve access to pregnancy prevention and termination/abortion, and pass the Reproductive Health Care Act which preserves women’s right to choose in NYS no matter what happens to Roe v. Wade nationally.”
In addition to being a co-sponsor of the event, PUSH Buffalo was an active participant, joining WNY Peace Center and Planned Parenthood among the list of scheduled speakers.
Membership in WNY Peace Center
The CCHD absolutely forbids organizations from membership in organizations acting against Catholic teaching. In an FAQ on the USCCB website, the CCHD directly answers the question about whether grantees may be members of coalitions that oppose Catholic teachings. In answer, the CCHD firmly stated, “CCHD will not fund groups that are knowingly members of coalitions that have as part of their organizational purpose or coalition agenda, positions or actions that contradict fundamental Catholic moral and social teaching.”
Given this prohibition, PUSH Buffalo should have been disqualified from funding for its membership in the Western New York Peace Center.
PUSH Buffalo is listed on the website of the Western New York Peace Center as an “organizational member.”
Under the heading “Gender Justice,” the WNY Peace Center firmly states that it is fighting for LGBTQ “rights” as well as “bodily autonomy.” Given the hashtag “stop the bans,” it is clear that bodily autonomy is a reference to abortion.
WNY Peace Center states that all the issues it pushes via taskforces, including abortion and homosexuality, are interconnected: “While our nine taskforces focus on issue areas such as Gender Justice, Racial Justice, Prisoners’ Rights, Immigrant & Refugee Justice, Resist Militarism!, etc., we stress the interconnectedness of our issues, Uniting in the Struggle and Movement-Building.” (emphasis added, source: //wnypeace.org/wp/about/history/)
WNY Peace Center has a “Gender Justice” task force that promotes homosexual activism, donating to Planned Parenthood and boasts about a picture of a “uterus giving the finger.”
WNY Peace Center also promoted a Planned Parenthood rally as well as an event in support of abortion.
Perhaps not surprisingly, WNY Peace Center’s list of partners includes Planned Parenthood, CNY & WNY.
Conclusion
PUSH Buffalo is an organization that not only partners with affiliates that explicitly promote LGBTQ+ and pro-abortion agendas, but also uses its own resources to express support of LGBTQ+ communities and attempts to indoctrinate youth through its outreach programs. Further, its executive director has been openly critical of the landmark overturning of Roe v. Wade.
